Roque pondering Eleksyon 2022 run

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Tuesday said he is thinking of running for an elective post in 2022.

“Patuloy po ang pagdarasal ko. 2019 po, nagkasakit ako [I continue to pray. In 2019, I got sick], I had a disappointment,” Roque said when asked if he is running for the Senate in 2022.

“I continue to ponder and pray,” he added.

Roque, however, said that willingness aside, running for the Senate is a hard decision to make given the huge funding needed to mount a national campaign.

“Gustuhin man natin because I feel I have unfinished business as a former member of 17th Congress, mahirap ang pondo sa panahon ng COVID-19. Mahirap mag-raise ng pondo dahil napakalaking halaga ang kailangan para makatakbo sa Senado,” Roque added.

[As much as I would want to because I feel I have an unfinished business as a former member of 17th Congress, funding is hard during COVID-19. It is difficult to raise funds given that you will need a huge amount of money to mount a Senate campaign.]

In December 2020, Roque said he would not be running in 2022 and was instead looking forward to retirement in government service.

Roque filed a certificate of candidacy for the 2019 Senate polls but backed out, citing health reasons. — BM, GMA News
