Over 50,000 face mask violations from May 31 to June 6 –DILG


The Department of the Interior and Local Government recorded more than 50,000 face mask violations from May 31 to June 6, 2021 amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Interior Secretary Eduardo Año on Monday night said a total of 50,021 individuals were caught not wearing face masks.

According to Chino Gaston's Tuesday report on "24 Oras," of the over 50,000 violators, 28,087 were warned; 17,395 were fined; 3,413 underwent community service; and 1,126 were arrested.

For social distancing violations, 11,055 were warned; 1,880 were fined; 325 underwent community service; and 622 were arrested.

In terms of mass gatherings, 579 were warned, 28 were fined, and six underwent community service.

President Rodrigo Duterte also called on the public to observe the minimum health protocols to prevent the further spread of the virus.

"Please observe the basic protocol. Mag-mask, hugas ng kamay at social distancing. Matatapos din 'to, especially with your cooperation, mas madali," Duterte said. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
