If Sara will not run, Roque says he'll back a Go-Duterte tandem in Eleksyon 2022

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque on Wednesday said he will support the 2022 presidential bid of Senator Bong Go with President Rodrigo Duterte as running mate if Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte will not seek the presidency.

Roque made the statement even as he has insisted that the President has yet to decide whether to accept the nomination of the ruling PDP-Laban party for him to run for vice president in 2022.

"The issue now is whether Mayor Sara will in fact run because if she does not, I dare say that the President will have to make up his mind on what is best for the country. If he runs for vice president then it’s a certain thing that Senator Bong Go will run for the presidency. And if this happen, I will be supportive of Bong Go and Duterte candidacy," Roque said in an interview on ANC.

"If Mayor Sara does not run and if the President thinks that Senator Bong Go is the best thing for the country, then I’m confident that the president will in fact file for his COC (certificate of candidacy) for vice president. In which case I’m very very supportive of a Bong Go and President Duterte tandem," he added.

Roque then said that a Go and Sara Duterte face-off in the 2022 presidential race  "will never happen."

The filing of candidacy for the 2022 polls is scheduled from October 1 to 8 but substitutions can be made until December.

Roque also said in the same interview that he will run for the Senate in 2022 if Mayor Sara will run for president. —KBK, GMA News
