7,485 new COVID-19 infections push Philippines’ active cases to 56,921

The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday reported 7,485 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the nationwide tally to 1,293,687, as four laboratories failed to submit data on time.

This marks the second consecutive day where more than 5,000 cases were reported.

According to the DOH, this brought the number of active cases to 56,921.

Of this, 92.6% are mild, 3.2% are asymptomatic, 1.7% are severe, and 1.3% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,214,454 after 4,504 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 122 new fatalities brought the death toll to 22,312.

Fifteen duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 65 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Based on data from the DOH, 57% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are occupied while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

In the National Capital Region, 49% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 34% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

DOH Epidemiology Bureau director Dr. Alethea De Guzman earlier vowed that the agency is transparent with COVID-19 data and does not manipulate information.—AOL, GMA News
