2.2 million doses of Pfizer vaccine arrive at NAIA

Additional 2.2 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine from the COVAX facility have landed at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

According to Rod Vega’s report on Super Radyo dzBB, this is the biggest batch of Pfizer vaccines from the facility that arrived in the country.

Half of the vaccines will be allocated in the National Capital Region while half will be shared by Davao and Cebu.

Vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. and other officials of the Department of Health (DOH) were in the airport to receive the vaccines.

The vaccines will be given to individuals under the A1 to A3 priority group which are the healthcare workers, the senior citizens, and those with comorbidities, said a joint statement by the DOH, World Health Organization and the United Nations Children’s Fund.

“If you are already in the priority group but have not yet registered with your local government unit, please contact your LGU to get vaccinated,” Health Secretary Francisco Duque III said.

“I urge everyone to choose to be vaccinated when it’s their turn to protect themselves and their loved ones,” he added.

Galvez previously said the vaccines will arrive before the end of May.

The vaccine czar has apologized for the vaccination delay in some local government units due to the lack of supply.

The Philippines is expecting to receive around 11 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines this June —5.5 million doses of Sinovac , 1 million doses of Sputnik V, 250,000 doses of Moderna, over 2.2 million doses of Pfizer-BioNTech, and 2 million doses of AstraZeneca.

As of June 6, the Philippines has fully vaccinated over 1.5 million individuals against COVID-19 while 4,421,319 individuals have received their first dose.—LDF, GMA News
