The government has allowed the reopening of indoor non-contact sports venues in NCR Plus areas at 30% venue capacity amid the COVID-19 pandemic, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque announced on Friday.

Indoor non-contact sports venues include gyms, fitness studios, skating rinks, and racket sports courts.

Roque said the operations of these indoor sports facilities will be allowed provided that they secure Safety Seal Certification from the Department of Trade and Industry.

Gyms have been closed since NCR Plus -- Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal -- has been placed on stricter enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) and modified ECQ protocol since March 27 due to a surge in COVID-19 cases.

Meanwhile, Roque said the government has also allowed the reopening of historical sites and museums in NCR Plus areas at 20% venue capacity, provided that health and safety protocols are strictly observed and the local government unit where these sites may be situated approve of such reopening.

Guided tours in these historical sites and museums, however, remain prohibited, Roque said.

Roque said the decisions were made following a meeting by the  Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases on Thursday.  —KBK, GMA News
