8,027 new COVID-19 cases bring Philippines’ active cases to 60,341

The number of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in the country climbed to 1,308,352 on Saturday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 8,027 new infections.

This marks the fourth consecutive day where more than 5,000 cases were reported.

According to the DOH, active cases slightly decreased to 60,341.

Of this, 90.7% are mild, 5.0% are asymptomatic, 1.7% are severe, and 1,3% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries also rose to 1,225,359 after 8,940 more patients recovered from the illness, the highest daily recoveries recorded since May 16.

Meanwhile, 145 new fatalities brought the death toll to 22,652.

Twenty-four duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 59 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 57% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are in use while 35% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 48% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 32% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

Earlier, Health Secretary Francisco Duque III renewed his appeal to nurses and doctors to heed the government’s call for more COVID-19 medical frontliners as surges in cases were recorded in various parts of the country. -MDM, GMA News
