7,302 new Philippine COVID-19 infections logged; active cases at 59,865


The Philippines on Sunday reported 7,302 new COVID-19 infections, pushing the country's total tally to 1,315,639, as one laboratory failed to submit data on time.

The Department of Health said the new cases brought the total active cases in the country to 59,865, of which 91.2% are mild, 4.6% are asymptomatic, 1.8% are severe, and 1.3% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries rose to 1,232,986 after 7,701 more patients recovered from the respiratory illness.

The death toll climbed to 22,788 with 137 new fatalities.

The DOH said 15 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 65 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Data from the DOH showed that 58% of the country’s intensive care unit beds are utilized, while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are also in use.

In Metro Manila, 46% of the ICU beds are in use, while 32% of the ventilators are utilized. — DVM, GMA News
