6,426 new COVID-19 infections bring active tally to over 59K


The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday reported 6,426 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, raising the Philippines' total tally to 1,322,053.

This is the fourth straight day where over 6,000 cases were reported.

The DOH said the new cases brought the number of active cases in the country to 59,096, of which 91.8% are mild, 3.9% are asymptomatic, 1.8% are severe, and 1.3% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries climbed to 1,240,112 after 7,145 more patients defeated the respiratory illness.

The death toll increased to 22,845 with 57 new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 12 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 10 cases previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said all laboratories were operational and 10 laboratories were not able to submit their data on time.

Data from the DOH also showed that 58% of the country’s intensive care unit beds and 36% of the mechanical ventilators are utilized.

In the National Capital Region, 47% of the ICU beds are utilized, while 34% of the ventilators are in use.—LDF, GMA News
