Blended learning allowance for public school teachers released soon –DepEd

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Monday said they will soon distribute the cash allowance for public school teachers for the academic year 2021-2022.

On Facebook, the Education Department announced that it signed a joint circular with the Department of Budget and Management to mandate the implementation of the DepEd-Office of the Secretary Special Provision No. 11 in the Fiscal Year 2021 General Appropriations Act (GAA) on cash allowances for public school teachers.

"With the help of Congress, the Department is continuously pushing for better financial support for our public school teachers. This year is actually the start of the staggered increase for our teachers’ cash allowance who are truly committed to delivering quality education despite the pandemic," Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a statement.

Under the circular, a cash allowance will be provided public school teachers to fund their expenses for the internet, teaching materials, medical exams as well as other communication materials as blended learning continues during the pandemic.

According to Undersecretary for Finance Annalyn Sevilla, the date of class opening is important for the release of the cash allowance.

“Importante po na magkaroon tayo ng desisyon kung kailan yung susunod na school year calendar dahil ihahanda din po namin sa finance ang pagbibigay ng cash allowance para sa ating mga guro. Last year, it is P3500, but this year this is now P5000. Also, there is transportation and teaching aid allowance for our Alternative Learning Service teachers,” Sevilla said.

(We need to decide on our school year calendar because we will prepare the cash allowance disbursement for our public school teachers.)

Among the recipients of the cash allowance were permanent and contractual public school teachers; Alternative Learning System (ALS) Mobile and District ALS Coordinators (DALCS) in all public elementary, junior, senior high schools and community learning centers.

Teachers who have no teaching load, teachers who were absent without leave, indefinite leave of absence, maternity leave, study leave, and those who are facing sanctions during their duty are not eligible for the cash allowance. — DVM, GMA News
