Trillanes sees a Duterte run in Eleksyon 2022 will spell defeat

Former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV wants President Rodrigo Duterte or his daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio to run in the 2022 national elections to see them lose.

Interviewed on "The Mangahas Interviews," Trillanes said he is looking forward to the defeat of the Dutertes in the 2022 polls if ever they decide to run.

"Ang personal preference ko ay dapat may tumakbong isang Duterte nang sa ganoon magkaroon ng opportunity 'yung taumbayan na i-reject itong Duterte name sa Philippine politics para naman ma-redeem natin 'yung ating national soul at mapakita natin sa buong mundo na hindi tayo ganyan as a people," Trillanes said.

Allies of the President in PDP-Laban have adopted a resolution urging Duterte to run for vice president after his term.

Some have also floated the possibility of a tandem between daughter and father.

Duterte has discouraged Sara from running, saying the presidency is not a job for a woman.

Sara Duterte, in January, said he does not intend to make a go for the highest post in next year's elections.

Trillanes said the opposition coalition 1Sambayan has been assessing possible scenarios if a Duterte makes a run for the presidency next year.

"We have factored in all different scenarios -- kung tatakbo sila together, isa sa kanila or kung sinuman ang babasbasan ni Duterte we have factored that in," he said.

"Susubukan po talaga namin na hindi mangyari 'yan. Kasi kung manalo po 'yong anak, kung ano 'yong nararamdaman niyo ngayon ay ganito pa rin. Kung gaano kahirap 'yong buhay, baka lumala pa. Pababa na tayo, pabulusok na tayo pababa kaya sana ho ma-realize ng mga kababayan natin," Trillanes added.

Trillanes earlier underscored that 1Sambayan is the only way for the opposition to secure a victory in 2022.

1Sambayan has revealed six nominees for president and vice president. Trillanes is among them along with Vice President Leni Robredo, Senator Grace Poe, Representatives Eduardo Villanueva and Vilma Santos-Recto, and lawyer Chel Diokno.
