Palace guarantees COVID-19 vaccine prioritization for PNP personnel

Malacañang has assured enough COVID-19 vaccines for the police force on Tuesday, saying law enforcement agents also deserve recognition for maintaining peace and order amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Presidential spokesperson Harry Roque made the comments during the vaccination of police personnel led by Philippine National Police chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar.

"The President promised that his men in uniform, both the military and the police, will have priority in receiving the vaccine. You will be given priority because this is in recognition of your heroism. Today, we witness a promise fulfilled," Roque said.

"The President said that the soldiers and the police must be given priority because you are also frontliners. While we recognize the heroism of our medical frontliners as being our soldiers in the war against COVID-19, without the security and stability provided by the AFP and the PNP,  they will not be able to discharge their function," he added.

The vaccination of A4 category, or all those who are employed and required to be on site for their job, started last week.

The A4 category covers 35 million individuals, but the Philippines' COVID-19 vaccine supply is just around at 12 million doses or good for six million people since all those COVID-19 vaccine brands available in the Philippines are administered in two doses. — Llanesca T. Panti/RSJ, GMA News
