5,414 new COVID-19 cases reported; active tally at 56,170


The Philippines on Wednesday reported 5,414 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases, bringing the total to 1,332,832, as six laboratories failed to submit reports on time.

This marks the seventh consecutive day where more than 5,000 cases were reported.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the number of active cases decreased to 56,170.

Of this, 91.4% are mild, 4% are asymptomatic, 1.9% are severe, and 1.3% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries also rose to 1,253,541 with 7,637 new ones while 158 new fatalities brought the death toll to 23,121.

Eleven duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 375 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 117 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 58% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 37% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region (NCR), 45% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 33% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

According to the OCTA Research group, the new cases of COVID-19 in Metro Manila continue to decrease.—LDF, GMA News
