250,000 Moderna vaccine doses arriving June 27; other brands expected within the month —Galvez

Vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. on Sunday said 250,000 doses of Moderna COVID-19 vaccines are expected to be delivered to the Philippines on June 27.

This shipment includes those purchased by the private sector.

Meanwhile, 1.5 million doses of Sinovac COVID-19 vaccines will arrive on June 24, said Galvez who is also the National Task Force (NTF) Against COVID-19 chief implementer.

Galvez also said 2,028,000 AstraZeneca doses from the COVAX facility are expected to be shipped to the country within the month of June.

He added that 150,000 doses of Sputnik V (component 2) vaccines will also be delivered this June.

The country is also expecting the arrival of the US donation of COVID-19 vaccines before the month ends.

"We also expect to receive the US donation of vaccines before the end of June," Galvez said.

July arrivals

Meanwhile, in July, the country is expecting the arrival of 11,670,000 vaccine doses, the NTF chief implementer added. 

This is broken down into:

  • 4.5 million Sinovac vaccine doses
  • 1 million Moderna vaccine doses
  • 1 million Sputnik V vaccine doses
  • 1.17 million AstraZeneca vaccine doses purchased by the private sector
  • 4 million doses of either Astrazeneca or Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines from the COVAX facility

 

"According to Galvez, the initial release of US-donated vaccines to COVAX of about 80 million doses will provide a major boost to the facility’s efforts to provide nations around the world with much-needed doses," the NTF said.

Total to date

According to the NTF, a total of 14,205,870 doses of COVID-19 vaccines purchased by the government and the private sector as well as those donated by foreign governments have arrived in the country to date.

These include Sinovac, Sputnik V, Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines.

"In the first three weeks of June, the country received a total of 5,876,820 doses, consisting of  3.5 million Sinovac doses, 2,276,820 Pfizer doses (from COVAX), and 100,000 Sputnik V doses," the NTF said. —KG, GMA News
