Eleazar orders manhunt for suspects in Absalon's death

By JOVILAND RITA,GMA News

PNP chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar directed Thursday his personnel to intensify manhunt for the suspects behind the death of Far Eastern University football player Kieth Absalon and his relative Nolven.

In a statement, Eleazar ordered concerned police stations and offices to improve the intelligence operations to immediately track down and arrest the suspects, who are communist rebels.

“I am directing the local police to intensify their intelligence-gathering operations to immediately locate and arrest the suspects,” he said.

For him, capturing the suspects would also remove the fear and anxiety of Masbate City residents over further atrocities by the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

Eleazar underscored that the PNP will find a way to give justice for the victims through “aggressive” police operations if the communist group refuses to turn the suspects over to the police.

Meanwhile, the Masbate City Police has filed murder and frustrated murder complaints, and is eyeing to file another rap for violation of the Anti-Terrorism Act against the suspects.

One of the suspects identified as Mariel Cañete Suson, 45, was arrested on Tuesday through an arrest warrant. She is now under the custody of Masbate City Police Station.

Police said the other suspects are:

  • Eddie Rosero or “Ka Star”
  • Lara Lagac or “Ka Ivan/Kian”
  • Sonny Diamos
  • Eddie Basical Eser or “Ka Nono”
  • Mario Esparaguerra or “Ka Mayong”
