Liberal Party: Noynoy may end his journey but ‘Daang Matuwid’ will continue

The Liberal Party (LP) on Thursday mourned the death of its chairman emeritus, former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, vowing that his  “Daang Matuwid”— an advocacy  for good governance— will continue despite his passing.

“Magpapahinga na si PNoy sa kaniyang biyahe, pero tuloy pa rin, palagi, ang Daang Matuwid,” the opposition party said in a statement.

(PNoy will now end his journey, but Daang Matuwid will continue.)

The party underscored that the country has lost one of the finest examples of what a President should be.

The LP said Aquino “had the integrity that cannot be questioned, he had foresight and will, he never stole, and his actions are aligned with his words.”

“When the veneer of disinformation fades and history holds everyone to account, Filipinos will realize what they had lost today. Mabuting tao si PNoy, at pinabuti ni PNoy ang buhay ng Pilipino. Mahusay at dakila siyang pinuno. Napakarami niyang natulungan. Ibinigay niya ang lahat para mapaglingkuran tayo,” the LP statement read.

(PNoy was a good man and he has made the lives of the Filipino people better. He is a great and excellent leader. He has helped many people and gave everything to serve us.)

“Under his leadership, systemic corruption that had calcified for generations began to be dismantled. Nawala ang wang-wang sa kalsada, simbolo ng pang-aabuso ng makapangyarihan. Iginalang tayo ng buong mundo: Filipinos the world over could hold their head up high, knowing that the country was on an upward trajectory, and that the topmost level of government was conducting itself with honor,” it added.

(The practice of wang-wang—a symbol of government officials’ abuse— was prohibited. We were honored by the international community: Filipinos the world over could hold their head up high, knowing that the country was on an upward trajectory, and that the topmost level of government was conducting itself with honor.)

The party mentioned that Aquino was hard on the corrupt but inclusive in empowering the people, saying he had not favored any district or provinces based on their political affiliations.

“While the Liberal Party grew in numbers, even those from other parties enjoyed fair processes for their projects: Gaya ng lagi, basta makakatulong sa Pilipino, isinulong ni PNoy nang walang nakikitang political colors,” he said.

(Like what he was always saying, as long as it can help the Filipinos, PNoy will support if without looking at the political colors.)

They said Aquino’s philosophy is always rooted in the question of “How do we best serve the Filipino people?”

“Madalas sabihin ni PNoy sa kanyang mga talumpati ang kanyang layunin: To leave the world better than when he found it. PNoy may rest in peace knowing that in every aspect within his control, the country was better through his leadership. The rest is up to us,” the statement read.

On Thursday morning, multiple sources said Aquino died after being rushed to Capitol Medical Center in Quezon City. He was 61.

His remains were transported to Heritage Memorial Park in Taguig City.

The Aquino family will release an official statement on the death of the former president later this day, according to their spokesperson Abigail Valte. — RSJ, GMA News
