Radio station apologizes for host's 'inappropriate statements' in wake of PNoy's death

Radio station dwIZ has apologized particularly to the loved ones of former President Benigno Aquino III for "inappropriate statements" made by a "guest host" in one of its morning shows.

The apology posted on Facebook didn't mention the name of the host but an HIV advocacy group has said it was considering a disbarment case against Atty. Larry Gadon for allegedly saying on air that Aquino had HIV.

"The management has taken action about this uncalled for comments and will not tolerate this kind of incident," the station said.

"We sincerely would like to extend our condolences to the bereaved family and the whole nation," it added.

HIV advocacy group The Red Whistle on Friday said it was looking into filing a disbarment complaint and criminal charges against lawyer Larry Gadon after he insinuated that Aquino had HIV.

During his radio show Karambola on Thursday, Gadon said that Aquino was unable to recover from his illness due to HIV.

“The Red Whistle strongly condemns in unequivocal terms a statement made by Atty. Lorenzo “Larry” Gadon, maliciously imputing that former President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III had HIV, in violation of Republic Act No. 11166 or the Philippine HIV Policy Act,” it said in a statement. —NB, GMA News
