PNoy did not deserve to be unappreciated –Lacson

Several senators mourned the passing of former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III.

According to a report on "24 Oras Weekend" on Sunday, Senator Panfilo Lacson , who sat as the Super Typhoon Yolanda rehabilitation czar during the Aquino administration, said Aquino's passing at a relatively young age was heartbreaking.

He also recalled that he texted Aquino the day he died when he found out he was hospitalized. He said he then received a message that the former chief executive passed away.

"Hindi naging fair sa kaniya 'yong perception kasi I thought he did not deserve to be unappreciated being president of the country kasi marami siyang nagawa talaga (because he achieved a lot for the country)," Lacson said.

For Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan, he said he would not forget Aquino's simplicity and selflessness.

"Congressman pa lang si presidente noon, may niligawan siya sa Senate office ko. Nakita ko si then Congressman Noynoy Aquino, nakaupo doon sa waiting area. 'Yong mga gustong makipag-appointment sa akin, doon siya nakaupo. Sabi ko, 'anong ginagawa mo dito?'" he recalled.

(He was still a congressman then and I saw him sitting in my waiting area. I was shocked to see that he, who wanted to set an appointment with me, sat there.)

Aquino died on Thursday morning. According to a statement read by his sister Pinky Aquino-Abellada on Thursday afternoon at the Heritage Park, Aquino was pronounced dead at 6:30 a.m. due to renal disease secondary to diabetes. — Ma. Angelica Garcia/DVM, GMA News
