Romualdez asks Senate to take a second look on Bayanihan 3

House Majority Leader Ferdinand Martin Romualdez on Monday called on the Senate to take a second look on the proposed Bayanihan 3, which aims to help Filipinos affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Perhaps the Senate could give it a second look,” Romualdez said in an interview on ANC.

“We feel that it will be very important, not only in the extension of the Bayanihan 1 and 2, but we feel that the ayuda programs that this Bayanihan 3 would seek to address can also give the administration of the President and the Executive more latitude in the distribution of social amelioration programs a better effect all throughout,” he added.

On June 1, the House passed on third and final reading the Bayanihan 3

, which seeks to provide P401 billion worth of interventions to help the country recover from the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Romualdez admitted that there has been concerns on the availability of funds for this proposed measure.

“We also were maybe a bit ambitious in the eyes of the Senate and the Executive because we contemplated P400 billion fund. We are hopeful that some considerations will be given to this measure that we pass almost unanimously,” the Leyte congressman said.

Senator Sonny Angara has said the Senate finance committee will hold hearings on the measure once Congress resumes session by next month. It will resume in the morning of President Rodrigo Duterte’s last State of the Nation Address on July 26. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
