OFWs, seafarers to get 99,600 Moderna doses vs. COVID-19, says Galvez

A total of 99,600 doses of the Moderna vaccine that will arrive in the country on June 29 will be given to overseas Filipino workers and seafarers, vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said Monday.

"Ibibigay po namin 'to sa mga OFWs at seafarers na pinangakuan po natin at sa ating mga frontliners na kailangang kailangan po, 'yong different government employees po natin," Galvez said during President Rodrigo Duterte's weekly address.

(We're giving these vaccines to OFWs and seafarers, as promised, and frontliners-government employees who need it very much.)

This is the second batch of Moderna vaccine doses that will arrive in the country this month.

On Sunday, nearly 250,000 Moderna vaccine doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.

Of the 249,600 doses, 150,000 were bought by the national government, while 99,600 were procured by the private sector.

Moreover, Galvez said among the COVID-19 vaccines expected to arrive in the country in July are 5.5 million Sinovac doses; 1.17 million AstraZeneca doses; 250,800 Moderna doses; and 500,000 Pfizer doses.

The National Vaccination Operations Center (NVOC) is also looking to achieve 8 to 10 million administered vaccine doses next month if supplies of COVID-19 jabs would be sufficient, Galvez also said.

Also, during his presentation, Galvez showed that the highest number of doses delivered were from Sinovac vaccines.

For the first quarter of 2021, 2 million doses of Sinovac vaccines were delivered while 525,600 AstraZeneca vaccines arrived in the country.

In the second quarter, a total of 14,929,870 vaccines were delivered. Of which, 10 million from Sinovac, 2,469,870 from Pfizer, 2,030,400 from AstraZeneca, 249,600 from Moderna, and 180,000 from Sputnik V.

In its latest bulletin, the DOH said 10,065,414 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered across 1,231 active vaccination sites.

A total of 7,538,128 shots were administered as first doses while 2,527,286 were second doses.
