Initial findings in lagundi clinical trials show faster recovery for COVID-19 patients

Initial findings of the clinical trials for lagundi as a treatment for COVID-19 showed faster recovery of infected patients from symptoms, Department of Science and Technology chief Fortunato dela Peña said Wednesday.

At the Laging Handa public briefing, Dela Peña added that all patients in mild condition who took lagundi have recovered from the disease.

“Yung mga nag-lagundi, madaling bumalik ang kanilang pag amoy. Pangalawa, ‘yun pong mga sintomas na nag-take ng lagundi ay mas naunang nawala,” he said.

(Those who took lagundi have recovered from COVID-19 symptoms faster.)

The infected patients who took lagundi took eight to seven days to recover, according to Dela Peña.

He said the researchers have yet to determine if the dosage of lagundi has an effect to the viral load in infected patients as they are still waiting for the swab results.

With this development, Dela Peña said that they are looking forward that the DOH would recommend lagundi for COVID-19 patients in mild condition.

The clinical trial for lagundi will end this June.

Meanwhile, the clinical trials for virgin coconut oil on COVID-19 patients are set to be completed by July, Dela Peña said. —NB, GMA News
