Camarines Sur Representative Luis Raymund “LRay' Villafuerte on Wednesday said Vice President Leni Robredo cannot run for governor of Camarines Sur in the coming national and local elections.

In an ambush interview in Taguig City, Villafuerte expressed belief that Robredo would seek the presidency in the 2022 polls.

"Ako, personally ang pakiramdam ko si Leni will run for president ngayon 'yung sinasabing she's considering to run for local, she can run for Congressman or mayor of Naga City but definitely not for governor," Villafuerte said.

"Why? May kaso na po ang Comelec na if you're a registered voter of Naga City, you are disqualified to run in the province. Decided case na po 'yan," he added.

He cited the case of former solicitor general Jose Anselmo Cadiz who had run for governor of Camarines Sur before.

"He is a registered voter of Naga City, he ran against my father and my son before. Nagdecide 'yung Comelec if you're a registered voter of Naga City, you cannot vote for governor therefore you cannot run for governor because independent chartered city ang Naga," Villafuerte said.

It was stated under Republic Act No. 305 or the Charter of the City of Naga that the "qualified voters of the city shall not be entitled to vote in any election for the offices of provincial governor and members of the provincial board of Camarines Sur: Provided, however, that any of such qualified voters can be candidate for any provincial office."

Meanwhile, Villafuerte also claimed that Robredo did not transfer her voter's registration to Magarao town, contrary to the claim of former Camarines Sur Representative Rolando Andaya Jr.

"Nagpatayo siya ng bahay sa Magarao pero di siya lumipat as registered voter, number one... and you need one year residency to run for governor so 'yung bahay niya sa Magarao is still under construction so you have to physically be there. actually kailangan lumipat ka. Hindi siya lumipat," he said.

It was Andaya who had floated the idea that Robredo will run for Camarines Sur governor.

Early this month, Robredo said she has no final decision yet for her plans in the 2022 elections. —NB, GMA News
