Dengue cases in the Philippines has gone down by 48% this year compared with that of 2020, the Department of Health said Thursday.

Dr. Ailene Espiritu of the DOH Disease Prevention and Control Bureau said there were 27,930 dengue cases recorded in the country from January to June this year, a 48% decrease compared with the 53,866 recorded in the same period in 2020.

On the other hand, 104 individuals died of dengue as of June 5, which is 43% less than the 183 recorded in the same period in 2020.

"Ito ay dahil ang mga tao ay mas namamahalagi sa kanilang mga tahanan. Mas napaigting ang water and sanitation hygiene," Espiritu said during the Laging Handa briefing.

(These case decreases happened since people are confined in heir homes, and water and sanitation hygiene is strictly observed.)
