Duterte running for VP in Eleksyon 2022 a huge factor in Sara’s decision to seek presidency — HNP exec

If President Rodrigo Duterte decides to run for vice president in the coming national elections, it will be a huge factor for Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte in deciding whether she will really run for president or not, according to Hugpong ng Pagbabago Secretary General Anthony del Rosario on Monday.

In a television interview, Del Rosario was asked if Duterte running for vice president has an impact on Sara’s decision regarding her 2022 plans.

“I believe so, I think everybody knows that the mayor has already mentioned that a Duterte-Duterte tandem is not really something that she’s interested in, so if it is really the case that President Digong will run for vice president in 2002 and in all likelihood you will probably see another presidential candidate align with President Digong for 2022,” Del Rosario told ANC.

Del Rosario clarified that Sara has no decision yet on her plans in 2022.

“Mayor Sara has not really decided yet whether or not she’s going to run and secondly she hasn’t also discussed with the group with regards to her choice for vice president…” he said.

Del Rosario also said he thinks the younger Duterte would support whoever his father endorses in the coming elections. He was asked if he thinks the mayor would support a possible tandem of Senator Christopher “Bong” Go and her father in 2022.

Del Rosario responded, “I don’t see why not… anything could be possible.”

The ruling PDP-Laban had urged Duterte to run for the second highest position in the country and even gave him the power to choose his running mate.

Some members of the party are pushing for a Go-Duterte tandem in the coming elections.

Earlier, it was bared by presidential spokesman Harry Roque that Duterte wants his Sara to run for president, however, it seemed that the latter does not want to. — Anna Felicia Bajo/RSJ, GMA News
