JV Ejercito to decide in October if he will seek Senate comeback in Eleksyon 2022

Former Senator Joseph Victor “JV” Ejercito on Wednesday said he will decide in October if he will seek a Senate comeback in next year’s elections.

In a Viber message to reporters, Ejercito said he is only eyeing a possible Senate run as there are certain matters that he still needs to work on.

“I still have things to work on specially on the implementation side of the landmark laws that I passed,” Ejercito said.

Moreover, Ejercito said that “everyone has the right to run for office” and it is the “prerogative of the people to choose a candidate with integrity, honesty and track record.”

Earlier in the day, Ejercito’s half-brother — former Senator Jinggoy Estrada —  said it is better to have “one Estrada” running in the upcoming polls as the voters are getting confused when choosing between the two of them.

“Minsan nalilito ang mga botante kung sino sa aming dalawa. So siguro, it is high time to get to talk to each other and you know my dad is not getting younger anymore so gusto makita ng tatay ko na nagkakasundo kaming magkapatid,” he said.

(Sometimes, the voters are getting confused when choosing between the two of us. So maybe, it is high time to talk to each other. And you know, my dad is not getting any younger anymore so I think my father wants to see that we are in good terms.)

“In my case, If I decide to run, it’ll be because I believe I have a good track record, I never stole public funds and more importantly, I want to ensure that Universal Health becomes a reality for every Filipino,” Ejercito said.

In an ANC interview Wednesday morning, Jinggoy, who is facing plunder charges for his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam, said there is a “strong possibility” that he will run for senator again in the 2022 elections.

During the 2019 midterm elections, Estrada and then-reelectionist Ejercito ran for the Senate but lost.

Estrada landed on the 15th spot with over 11 million votes while Ejercito was on 13th spot with over 14 million votes.

Ejercito had blamed Jinggoy’s candidacy for his loss, saying his half-brother was the “biggest problem” in his 2019 senatorial bid. — RSJ, GMA News
