Local execs seek unified database of vaccinated individuals

By JAMIL SANTOS,GMA News

The Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) on Friday urged the government to have a unified database of vaccinated individuals to allow an easier way of verification by local government units.

"The simplest is a database that is readily accessible. That is the most useful that the local government units could use," ULAP national president and Quirino Governor Dakila Carlo Cua told Super Radyo dzBB in a mix of Filipino and English.

Cua said that in terms of land transportation, not all QR codes of travellers could be validated on site since not all checkpoints have access to WiFi.

"Kung card lang talaga na papel, wala pang safety features [If it is just a paper card, it has no safety features]," Cua said.

ULAP presented the proposal to the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Health (DOH) in their meeting on Thursday.

Cua also proposed a system that could verify the positive or negative COVID-19 test result of an individual.

He said one of the possibilities being looked into is the use of an individual's national ID number into the verification system.

Cua said they are also suggesting a unified vaccination card due to the different designs and layouts of vaccination cards of local government units (LGUs). —KBK, GMA News
