Lakas-CMD to mobilize machinery should Sara run for president

The Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats (Lakas-CMD) is throwing its support behind Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte should she decide to run for president in Eleksyon 2022.

The party’s president House Majority leader and Leyte Representative Martin Romualdez said Lakas-CMD welcomes Sara’s “openness to the idea of running for the presidency in 2022 polls.”

On Friday, the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte answered affirmatively when asked if she is open to run for the presidency in next year’s elections.

With this, Romualdez said that if Sara finally decides to run for president in 2022, “we will support her.”

“We will mobilize the entire machinery of Lakas-CMD— from the national level down to governors, congressmen, mayors and councilors— to ensure her victory,” he said.

“The Lakas-CMD was the first political party to signify intention to renew an alliance with Mayor Sara’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago. This alliance binds our party to support whoever is chosen by HNP as their candidates for President and Vice President,” he added.

Several groups have been pushing Sara Duterte, head of the regional group Hugpong ng Pagbabago, to run for president with her father as her runningmate.

Duterte said he was “sold on the idea” of running for vice president even as several lawmakers saw it as “bending” the Constitution. -MDM, GMA News
