Lacson, Sotto to announce Eleksyon 2022 plans on August 5

Senate President Vicente Sotto III and Senator Panfilo Lacson will announce their Eleksyon 2022 plans on August 5.

In a radio interview, Sotto said they plan to announce their decision after they conclude the series of consultations they are holding in across the country.

“Well, the preparations and the consultations and the information necessary na gusto namin by that time, siguro e, nasa amin na, at makakapag-prepare na kami," he said.

(By that time, maybe we would be done with the preparations, consultations, and information gathering.)

“Meron lang mga consultations pa kaunti na aasikasuhin. Plano naming mag Visayas, baka next week eh,” Sotto added.

(There are some consultations that we need to work on. We plan to go to the Visayas maybe next week.)

Their Mindanao leg is tentatively scheduled for the last week of July. Sotto said they will do it in between their Senate duties as Congress is set to resume sessions on July 26.

Last Thursday, the lawmakers started their “Luzon consultative tour” in Malolos, Bulacan ahead of next year’s national elections.

They went to Tarlac and Zambales last Thursday; Pangasinan and La Union on Friday and they are scheduled to visit Ilocos and Cagayan regions this Saturday.

According to Sotto, their Luzon consultative tour is intended to get updates on the status of the local government units, check the COVID-19 situation in various localities, and gather suggestions for the post-COVID-19 recovery plan of the country.

Sotto has yet to respond whether they will also conduct consultative tours in the Visayas and Mindanao.

Earlier, Sotto said he will be Lacson’s running mate if the latter decides to seek the country’s highest elected post.

Lacson confirmed this, saying it was “cast in stone” that Sotto would be his running mate if he seeks the presidency.

Nevertheless, Lacson maintained that he was still “processing very carefully” if he will run for president. — DVM, GMA News
