DepEd lauds students, teachers for persevering amid pandemic

As it commemorated the end of the school year 2020-2021, the Department of Education (DepEd) on Friday lauded students for persevering amid the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic.

“Despite being tested in an extraordinary time, our learners persevered and made valuable gains for their future,” Education Secretary Leonor Briones said in a statement.

“I am confident that this new breed of Filipino nation-builders — one that has experienced unusual obstacles — will be vital in moving the country for the years to come,” she later added.

However, not all students were able to stay in schools as some opted to give up online classes due to a lack of gadgets and internet connection.

Some parents have also shared the challenges they experienced as the country shifted to online learning.

Briones said the agency is indebted to parents and teachers, some of whom endured late nights and hardships to prepare modules for their students.

“We are greatly indebted to the dedication that you have given to your children during this crisis. Truly, your efforts have come to fruition as we celebrate this momentous day,” she said.

Though classes were supposed to end in June, DepEd extended the school year for basic education to July 10. — DVM, GMA News
