The Department of Health (DOH) on Monday said it was still verifying the statement of regional health authorities that Central Visayas was battling a third wave of COVID-19 infections.

In an interview on Super Radyo dzBB, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said Region 7 logged a two-week case growth rate of -7% and an average daily attack rate of 4.5 cases per 100,000 population.

“‘Pag tinignan po natin ‘yan, medyo mababa pa po ‘yan (When you look at it, those numbers are quite low) and we cannot consider that as high-risk as of now,” she said.

Vergeire explained, however, that DOH regional offices have their own granular analysis of COVID-19 data.

across Central Visayas.

“Bunsod lang ito ng kanilang paga-analyze ng kanilang datos. Atin pong vine-verify ‘yan pagkaganyan at kung sakaling may kulang pa silang impormasyon na naibigay, isu-supplement po natin ‘yan,” Vergeire said.

(This was a result of their data analysis. We are verifying this and if the information is incomplete, we will supplement it.)

Vergeire also assured the public that the DOH would discuss the matter with health officials in Central Visayas.

The Philippines has logged over 1.47 million COVID-19 cases with 1.39 million recoveries and 25,921 deaths as of Sunday afternoon.

Central Visayas has so far recorded 80,551 infections with 75,169 recoveries and 2,238 deaths, according to DOH data. —KBK, GMA News
