3,806 new COVID-19 cases logged, 44,408 active tally lowest in 4 months


The Philippines on Wednesday reported 3,806 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, bringing the total to 1,485,457, as five laboratories failed to submit data on time.

This marks the second consecutive day where less than 4,000 cases were recorded.

According to the Department of Health (DOH), the country’s active cases further decreased to 44,408, setting a new record for the lowest active infections since March 09.

Of this, 90% are mild, 3.5% are asymptomatic, 2.8% are severe, and 1.7% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,414,817 after 6,296 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 140 new fatalities brought the death toll to 26,232.

Nine duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count, eight of which were recoveries.

“Moreover, 105 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 57% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 37% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 43% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

On Tuesday, the Philippines administered over 375,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, its highest daily output so far.—LDF, GMA News
