NPC to finalize possible alliance with Aksyon Demokratiko on July 29 — Sotto

The Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) will finalize their possible alliance with the Aksyon Demokratiko Party on July 29, Senate President Vicente Sotto III said Thursday.

Sotto disclosed this to reporters after he posted a photo with some members of Aksyon Demokratiko party, including his nephew Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto.

“Auspicious talks with Aksyon Demokratiko,” Sotto, chair of the NPC, wrote in his Instagram post.

The meeting was attended by Senator Panfilo Lacson.

Sotto said the discussions happened on Wednesday night.

Asked for a possible alliance with the Aksyon Demokratiko, Sotto said: “I’m consulting my party on the 29th to finalize.”

He said the NPC will hold a general meeting on July 29 in New Manila, Quezon City.

Sotto and Lacson are among the politicians who are studying plans to run for vice president and president, respectively, in the upcoming polls.

The lawmakers have kicked off their consultative meetings last week.

They are set to announce their decision for the 2022 elections on August 5.

Earlier, Sotto said he will be Lacson’s running mate if the latter decides to seek the country’s highest elective post.

Lacson confirmed this, saying it was “cast in stone” that Sotto would be his running mate if he seeks the presidency.

Nevertheless, Lacson maintained that he was still “processing very carefully” if he will run for president.

‘The very best’

Malacañang had also wished Lacson and Sotto “the very best.”

Lacson earlier said Sotto is in for a good fight against President Rodrigo Duterte should they both decide to run for vice president in Eleksyon 2022.

Duterte topped the list of preferred vice presidential bets in the latest Pulse Asia survey while Sotto ranked third in the same study.

The Chief Executive’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, topped the rank of preferred presidential bets for 2022 while Lacson ranked ninth in the same list.

Asked for comment on the latest survey, Lacson said these should be a “sound basis” to plan and do better in the future.

“I always maintain that the present is minor, but that it should serve as a sound basis to plan and do better in the future. In all our present undertakings, we continue to strive   to do better,” Lacson told GMA News Online in a text message.

“When that future becomes our present, we continue to adapt to the changing situations. This is how life must go on. We don’t get distracted and we don’t stop looking at accomplishing our goals,” he added.

For his part, Sotto said the survey results are “amusing” but he said the survey will be more accurate if the names are not mixed up in both presidential and vice presidential categories. — RSJ, GMA News
