Robredo's survey rating will pick up once she declares her candidacy —Pangilinan

Senator Francis Pangilinan expressed confidence Friday that the ratings of Vice President Leni Robredo will pick up once she finally decides what position she will run in Eleksyon 2022.

“At this point in 2015, VP Leni Robredo’s numbers were even lower. PNoy (late President Benigno Aquino III) at this point in 2009 was not even in the polls,” Pangilinan, Liberal Party president, said in a press statement.

He said that Robredo is currently focused on helping the people affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Remember that the last time she actually went all-out on the campaign trail, she rose from 1 percent to victory. I have absolutely no doubt that when she does declare her candidacy, kapag luminaw sa taumbayan ang pagkatao niya, she will become an even stronger center of gravity for those who believe in strong, competent, compassionate, courageous leadership,” Pangilinan said.

“It has happened before; being an underdog is nothing new for VP Leni,” he added.

Robredo has yet to make public her plan for the May 2022 national elections.

In the recent Pulse Asia survey for possible presidential and vice presidential candidates, Robredo received only 6%. Presidential daughter Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio topped the poll as the most preferred candidate for the presidency.

Pangilinan said if Aquino was still alive, he would tell Robredo that she is on the right track, should continue helping people, and focus on being there for the them.

“Ngayon pa lang, in fact, tumutugon na ang taumbayan. Kabi-kabila ang panawagan sa kanyang tumakbo. I’ve worked with PNoy. Iisa ang mga batayang paninindigan ni PNoy at VP Leni. There is no doubt in our minds that if PNoy were still around, his support for VP Leni would be unequivocal,” he said.
