5,676 new COVID-19 cases bring Philippines’ total near 1.5 million

The Philippines on Friday reported 5,676 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), bringing the nationwide tally to 1,496,328, as three laboratories failed to submit data on time.

Due to this, the number of active cases rose to 48,480.

Of this, 91.8% are mild, 2.1% are asymptomatic, 2.6% are severe, and 1.6% are in critical condition.

The Department of Health (DOH) also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,421,372 after 2,670 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 162 new fatalities brought the death toll to 26,476.

Thirteen duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 28 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases, and 116 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 56% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 36% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 41% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 35% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

The Philippines has reported its first 11 local cases of the more transmissible Delta coronavirus variant, two of which are in Metro Manila.—AOL, GMA News
