Mariveles, Lapu Lapu, Cebu City had highest COVID infection rate in past week —OCTA

Mariveles, Lapu-Lapu City and Cebu City had the highest COVID-19 infection rates this past week, the OCTA Research group reported on Saturday.

Based on latest data gathered from July 10 to July 16, OCTA Research reported that in Mariveles, Bataan, the number of COVID-19 infections increased to 57 from 23 in the previous week, with a "very high" infection rate of 1.85 and "very high" 40.66 incidence rate.

Cases in Lapu-Lapu City also increased to 49 this week from the previous 29 cases last week. The city had a "very high" 1.70 infection rate and a "high" 10.94 incidence rate.

Cebu City had 98 cases this week from the previous 72, with "very high" 1.42 infection rate and moderate 9.68 incidence rate.

Iloilo City, Davao City, Cagayan de Oro and Tagum had the highest ICU utilization rates with 97%, 95%, 86% and 86% respectively.

According to a previous report by the OCTA Research, the average number of new COVID-19 cases in NCR from July 6 to July 12 was 2% lower than last week’s.

The group also said the reproduction number in NCR was recorded at 0.93 over the same period. A reproduction number of one or higher is an indication of the continuous transmission of the virus.

Meanwhile, the average daily attack rate (ADAR) in the NCR was recorded at 4.59 per day per 100,000 while the positivity rate remained at 6% with 22,000 tests per day.

The Philippines on Friday reported 5,676 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the nationwide tally to 1,496,328. —KG, GMA News
