5,651 new COVID-19 cases bring active tally to over 47k


The Department of Health on Monday reported 5,651 new coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) infections, raising the Philippines' total tally to 1,513,396.

This is the fifth straight day where over 5,000 cases were reported.

The DOH said the new cases brought the number of active cases in the country to 47,561 of which 91.9% are mild, 2.9% are asymptomatic, 2.7% are severe, and 1.6% are in critical condition.

Meanwhile, the total number of recoveries climbed to 1,439,049 after 5,332 more patients defeated the viral disease.

The death toll increased to 26,786 with 72 new fatalities.

The DOH noted that 10 duplicates were removed from the total case count, while 88 previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases.

Thirty-nine cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were also reclassified as deaths after final validation.

The DOH said six laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System.

Data from the DOH also showed that 54% of the country’s intensive care unit beds and 36% of the mechanical ventilators are utilized.

In the National Capital Region, 43% of the ICU beds are utilized, while 32% of the ventilators are in use.—LDF, GMA News
