President Rodrigo Duterte on Tuesday wished renewed faith for Muslims as they observe Eid'l Adha or Feast of Sacrifice.

"In the name of Allah, I join our Muslim brothers and sisters in observing Eid'l Adha. This significant occasion serves as a testament to the unyielding faith of the Muslim community and a fervent reminder to people that, amid life's difficulties and challenges, our sacrifices have profound value and meaning," Duterte said in a statement.

"It is my sincere hope that our Muslim brothers and sisters will find renewed faith and spirituality, especially when called to emulate Ibrahim's devotion to his belief," he added.

The President then assured Muslims that he stands in solidarity with them in pursuing shared goal of building a society that transcends religious, political, and cultural barriers.

Vice President Leni Robredo, for her part, called for solidarity and shared humanity.

"To all of the Muslim families here and around the world, a very blessed Eid'l Adha. As we mark the Feast of Sacrifice this year, let us come together in solidarity, shared humanity, and the common good," Robredo said.

She said the day should be a celebration of faith and its ability to endow the people with the courage to meet any challenge.

"Let us hold fast to these values as we journey towards the vision of a better normal. Though the road may be long, I know that the Filipino has the resolve to reach this aspiration," Robredo said.

Meanwhile, presidential spokesperson Harry Roque said the occasion reminds the people of the "values of selflessness and hope that would bind us together in building a society with mutual respect, harmony, and understanding."

Officials call for healing, peace

Some government officials called for healing and peace as they extended their greetings on the celebration of Eid al-Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice.

Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana hoped that the observance of Eid al Adha will remind Filipinos to “look out for one another, and forgo our differences for the peace and progress...”

“This holiday in the Islamic faith highlights the importance of unwavering devotion, fortitude and unity in times of trials,” he said in a statement.

“It is a chance for us to reflect on our values, with this auspicious day inspiring us to look beyond the comforts of our own lives and reach out to others in the spirit of empathy and service,” he added.

Meanwhile, presidential peace adviser and National Task Force Against COVID-19 chief implementer Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. called for a prayer for healing amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Let us continue to pray for the protection and healing of our people. Let us continue to trust and take care of each other. Let us remain united and work together for the recovery of our nation,” he said.

“May this blessed day bring peace, harmony, and spiritual tranquility to the hearts and souls of the Muslim Ummah around the world. Eid al-Adha Mubarak!” he added.

In a statement, Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Police General Guillermo Eleazar said he too is hoping for unity and spiritual tranquility on the occasion.

“The PNP warmly greets all our Muslim brothers and sisters, may the sacrifices of Allah inspire all of you with courage and strength,” he said.

“May this blessed day bring unity and spiritual tranquility to everyone as we move forward to a peaceful, orderly and progressive country. Eid Al Adha Mubarak!”

On Thursday, Malacañang said the President declared July 20, Tuesday, a regular holiday in observance of Eid'l Adha through Proclamation No. 1189.

During Eid'l Adha, Muslims slaughter sheep, goats, cows, and camels to commemorate Prophet Ibrahim's willingness to sacrifice his son on Allah's command.

It is one of the two important holidays in the Muslim calendar, the other being Eid'l Fitr, which marks the end of the holy fasting month of Ramadan.with Joviland Rita/AOL/KBK, GMA News
