Philippines receives over 500k doses of Pfizer vaccine vs. COVID-19


A total of 562,770 doses of American-made Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines arrived in the Philippines on Wednesday night, vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. has said.

According to GMA News Reporter Luisito Santos' report on SuperRadyo dzBB, the cargo plane carrying a shipment of Pfizer vaccines at the NAIA Terminal 3 around 8 p.m.

The  vaccines arrived earlier than the expected time of arrival of 9:20 p.m.

The doses would be brought to Marikina's cold storage facility to prevent the vaccines from spoilage.

Earlier on Wednesday night, 51,480 shots of the over 562,000  doses of Pfizer vaccine were also delivered to Cebu at 6 p.m.

Last month, Philippines signed a supply agreement to procure 40 million doses of Pfizer vaccines to augment its vaccination program, which targets to reach herd immunity.

In a previous "Talk to the People," vaccine czar Carlito Galvez Jr. said Philippines already acquired 164 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines which include: 

  • Pfizer-BioNTech - 40 million doses
  • Sinovac -  26 million doses
  • Moderna - 20 million doses
  • AstraZeneca -  17 million doses
  • Sputnik V - 10 million  doses
  • COVAX donation - 44 million doses
  • COVAX cost-sharing (Johnson & Johnson) - 5 million doses
  • Donations from Japan and China - 2 million doses


He said the country had enough stockpile of vaccine doses that will last up to August 17. —NB, GMA News
