OCTA: NCR's COVID-19 reproduction number now 1.21

Average number of daily new COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila has increased to 851 for the July 16 to 22 period, as the region's reproduction number reached 1.21, indicating sustained transmission, OCTA Research said Friday.

The latest number in daily new COVID-19 cases is a 39% increase from previous figure of 613, the group said. Metro Manila's reproduction number last week was .92.

Despite this, hospital bed utilization and ICU occupancy in Metro Manila remained low at 37% and 44% respectively, OCTA said.

OCTA Research released the data after the government task force placed National Capital Region (NCR) under the stricter general community quarantine (GCQ) with heightened restrictions.

Under this protocol, children aged five to 17 years old are not allowed outdoors. Indoor dining is also limited to 20% capacity, while outdoor dining is limited to 40% capacity.

Among cities, Cebu City posted the highest average number of new daily cases with 151, followed by Quezon City at 147, Manila with 125, Makati with 74 and Lapu-Lapu city in Cebu with 71.
