Philippines administers record 472,356 COVID-19 jabs in a day

The Philippines administered 472,356 doses of COVID-19 vaccines on July 22, the highest single-day accomplishment so far, the Department of Health (DOH) said Friday.

On July 13, the country logged 375,059 vaccine doses administered on that day.

“We have to increase our vaccination rate, especially among our senior citizens and persons with comorbidities, who are at most risk for severe COVID-19,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a briefing.

The government aims to administer 500,000 doses daily to meet its target of vaccinating some 70 million individuals this year.

However, Vergeire stressed that “our speed in vaccination is greatly dependent on the availability of vaccines supplied to the country.”

“When more vaccines come, we can exponentially increase the pace of our vaccination [effort],” she said.

As of July 18, the Philippines has administered over 15 million doses of anti-COVID-19 vaccines

A total of 10,388,188 individuals have gotten at least one dose. Of this number, 1,884,059 were health workers, 2,760,074 were senior citizens, 3,440,132 were persons with comorbidities, 1,943,672 were essential workers, and 360,251 were indigents.

Meanwhile, 4,708,073 people have been fully inoculated, 1,312,167 of whom were health workers, 1,197,270 were senior citizens, 1,578,807 were persons with comorbidities, 449,252 were essential workers, and 170,577 were indigents.

As it has always been, the DOH is urging the public to get vaccinated, especially that a local transmission of the highly contagious Delta variant has been confirmed. —LBG, GMA News
