6,664 more COVID-19 cases push Philippines’ active tally to 55k

The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 1,555,396 on Monday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 6,664 new infections as eight laboratories failed to submit data on time.

According to the DOH, this brought the country’s active cases to 55,140, the highest since July 02.

Of this, 93.6% are mild, 1.1% are asymptomatic, 2.3% are severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,473,009 after 5,766 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 23 new fatalities brought the death toll to 27,247.

Twenty-three duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

“Moreover, 17 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation,” the DOH said.

Data from the DOH showed that 58% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 39% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 46% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 37% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

The DOH earlier said it was monitoring six regions that exhibited a “trend reversal” from a negative to positive two-week case growth rate, indicating an increase in COVID-19 infections.—LDF, GMA News
