The House of Representatives on Tuesday suspended its session to honor former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III, who also served as a lawmaker.

It was Deputy Speaker Juan Pablo Bondoc who suspended the session until 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

“In deference to the passing of former President Benigno S. Aquino, who is also a member of the House of Representatives in the 11th, 12th, and 13th Congress, the session is suspended until 3 o’clock in the afternoon, tomorrow, July 28,” Bondoc said.

On June 24, Aquino died in his sleep due to renal disease secondary to diabetes.

During his term at the lower chamber, he focused on the fiscal aspect of crafting measures as he also actively took part during budget deliberations to ensure that the wants of those in need were addressed.

The late president also became deputy speaker but he resigned from his post when he joined Liberal Party leaders in calling for the resignation of then-President Arroyo amid the “Hello Garci” scandal. — DVM, GMA News
