Senator Richard Gordon has tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

In a radio interview Wednesday morning, Gordon disclosed that he has contracted the respiratory disease and he is undergoing quarantine.

"Ako mismo, right now. Natamaan ako (Right now, I contracted COVID-19). So I’m staying home,” Gordon said while discussing the Philippine Red Cross’ COVID-19 response.

He was asymptomatic but he noticed changes in his health when he had a hard time falling asleep.

“Wala [symptoms] pero nagpapatest ako. Mukhang asymptomatic ako, nasa bahay lang ako ngayon,” he said.

(There are no symptoms but I have regular tests and it seems that I am asymptomatic. I am staying at home right now.)

The senator said he was already fully vaccinated against COVID-19 using AstraZeneca vaccine.

His wife and his staff members tested negative for the coronavirus but they will undergo another test after three days, he said.

“Nakapagbakuna na kami. Magtetest siya [wife] about three days,” he added.

Due to the more transmissible Delta variant, Gordon said he was advised by his doctor to seek medical attention and have his lungs and blood checked. He might also undergo a CT scan within the day.

In a separate statement, Gordon reminded the public that vaccinated people can still get infected with coronavirus.

“I have been fully vaccinated and am grateful for the protection the vaccine affords me today. While infections in vaccinated people are relatively uncommon, they can and do happen. What vaccines offer, as has been documented in countries with high rate of vaccination, is protection against serious illness, hospitalization, and death. Vaccines work and they save lives,” he said.

Gordon was the sixth senator who confirmed that he contracted COVID-19.

The other senators who tested positive for the disease were Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri, Senators Sonny Angara, Aquilino Pimentel III, Ronald dela Rosa, and Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr.—AOL, GMA News
