5,735 new COVID-19 cases bring active tally to 56k


The Philippines’ tally of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases rose to 1,572,287 on Thursday after the Department of Health (DOH) reported 5,735 new infections.

According to the DOH, this brought the country’s active cases to 56,273.

Of this, 93.5% are mild, 1.2% are asymptomatic, 2.3% are severe, and 1.4% are in critical condition.

The DOH also announced that total recoveries climbed to 1,488,437 after 4,069 more patients recovered from the illness.

Meanwhile, 176 new fatalities brought the death toll to 27,577.

A total of 115 duplicate cases were also removed from the total case count.

"Moreover, 182 cases previously tagged as recoveries have been validated to be active cases and 132 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths," the DOH said.

Data from the Health department also showed that 59% of the intensive care unit beds nationwide are in use while 38% of the mechanical ventilators are occupied.

In the National Capital Region, 50% of the ICU beds are being utilized by patients while 37% of the mechanical ventilators are in use.

The DOH earlier reported  97 more cases of the highly infectious Delta coronavirus variant, raising the total to 216.—LDF, GMA News
