96 new COVID-19 cases in PNP drive up total to 30,524

Ninety-six new COVID-19 cases were reported among the police force on Sunday, data from the Philippine National Police (PNP) Health Service showed.

This drove up the total number of COVID-19 cases in the PNP to 30,524.

Of this number, 1,211 are active cases.

Twenty-nine new recoveries were reported on Sunday, making the total recoveries now 29,229.

Meanwhile, the death toll remained at 84.

PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Ronaldo Olay told Super Radyo dzBB on Sunday that police personnel undergo swab testing monthly.

"Monthly isinasagawa ang swabbing sa mga pulis. Mayroon tayong dalawang swabbing facility," Olay said.

The PNP spokesperson said the 51 personnel from the Quezon City Police District who tested positive for COVID-19 and were deployed for security during President Rodrigo's State of the Nation Address are already isolated.

"Tinitignan din ang kanilang medical needs nila. Pinaigting din ang contact tracing sa kanilang mga nakasalamuha," Olay said.

(Their medical needs are being addressed. Contact tracing was also intensified.)

The Philippines’ tally of COVID-19 cases rose to 1,588,965 on Saturday with 8,147 new infections

Active cases were at 60,887.

Meanwhile, total recoveries climbed to 1,500,189 after 9,117 more patients recovered from the illness, the highest recorded since June 19.

The Department of Health said 167 new fatalities brought the death toll to 27,889. —KG, GMA News
