The national government approved the recommendation to place Cebu province under a general community quarantine with heightened restrictions, from its previous status of a modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ), from August 1-15, Palace spokesman Harry Roque said Sunday.

Meanwhile, Laguna and Aklan restrictions were changed from a GCQ with heightened restrictions to MECQ also from Aug. 1-15.

For Apayao, the province was placed under MECQ

which starts from August 1 to August 15, 2021. A GCQ was previously enforced in the province.

In the statement, Roque also revealed that the IATF approved the shortening of detection to isolation/quarantine intervals to less than five days.

"These include the conduct of active case finding in all areas, prioritizing those with clustering; the tracing of close contacts of suspect, probable, and confirmed cases within 24 hours of detection of a case," Roque said in its statement.

The Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Disease also approved the policy prioritizing facility-based quarantines to prevent household transmission.

Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu Mayor Junard "Ahong" Chan had appealed to the IATF to reconsider its decision in placing other cities under MECQ, adding that the cities do not have enough funds to be placed under a strict form of lockdown. — DVM, GMA News
