Bongbong Marcos to seek presidency in Eleksyon 2022 if there is enough support

Former Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. will run for president in the coming 2022 elections if he has enough support.

Marcos issued such reply when asked what circumstances will prompt him to seek the presidency in 2022, given that he is ranking second among possible presidential bets in pre-election surveys.

"It is the usual [circumstances]. If there is a support for you, you have a vice president, senators, governors, mayors [who will support and run alongside you], you look at that," Marcos said during the Laging Handa briefing.

"Alliances have also become very important, and so I tend to go to grassroots, talk to the leaders. Mataas ka sa survey, titignan mo, totoo ba 'yan? Kailangan alamin mo sa local leaders," Marcos added.

(Yes, you rank high in surveys, and then you check if that is the truth on the ground by talking to local leaders.)

Marcos then said it is difficult to make a decision on running for 2022 for the moment because there are so many uncertainties, including clear grassroots support.

"If you have all of that (top level and grassroots support) and there is a way to win, you can run. Until that is clear, it would be premature to make a decision," Marcos said.

"The filing of candidacy is still in October," he added.

Marcos has already met with Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, the survey leader in pre-election polls and daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Marcos lost the 2016 vice presidential race to then-Camarines Sur Representative Leni Robredo by 263,473 votes.
