DILG warns public vs. fake news on COVID-19 vaccination, cash aid

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Thursday warned the public against fake news and disinformation about COVID-19 vaccination and cash assistance.

In a statement, the DILG spokesperson Undersecretary Jonathan Malaya denied that only vaccinated people will be given financial aid under the two-week enhanced community quarantine in Metro Manila.

“There is no truth whatsoever to the rumor that only vaccinated individuals will be given ayuda,” he said.

“The guidelines are now being finalized for the immediate release of the funds following the same system implemented during Ayuda 1 last April,” he added.

On Thursday morning, long lines of people waiting for COVID-19 vaccination sites to open were observed in Metro Manila, a day before the two-week ECQ.

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority chairperson Benhur Abalos said many people crowded vaccination sites due to the fake news that unvaccinated people will not receive cash aid.

Meanwhile, the Manila Public Information Office (PIO) said many people trooped in vaccination sites due to fear after receiving information that unvaccinated people will be banned outdoors.

The DILG underscored that the vaccination program in all local government units will continue during the ECQ period from August 6 to 20.

“In fact, we will utilize the two-week lockdown to ramp up vaccination in Metro Manila in cooperation with the LGUs in order for us to reach population protection this year,” Malaya said.

People with vaccination schedules will be considered authorized persons outside residence, who will be allowed to pass checkpoints upon presentation of proof, he added. — RSJ, GMA News
