Cusi: Go-Duterte nominated by PDP-Laban council for Eleksyon 2022

The national council of ruling party Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban) has nominated Senator Christopher “Bong” Go and President Rodrigo Duterte for president and vice president in the 2022 elections.

This was confirmed by Energy Secretary Alfonso Cusi, who was recently elected as president of the PDP-Laban by his faction, replacing Senator Manny Pacquiao.

“PDP national council in our meeting yesterday agreed to present to the forthcoming national convention the tandem of Go Duterte tandem for 2022 election,” Cusi told GMA News Online.

Acting secretary-general Melvin Matibag, meanwhile, clarified that other tandems may still be nominated and the Go-Duterte tandem is still up for discussion.

“There was an endorsement but it will still be discussed during the National Assembly on Sept. 8… Open pa din. But Go-Duterte tandem is the Logical and Popular choice of the overwhelming members of PDP-Laban,” he said.

Go has previously said that though he was not interested in running for president, he may change his mind should Duterte consider running as his vice president.

The PDP-Laban national council has also adopted a resolution urging Duterte to run for vice president in the upcoming elections.

Senate Minority Leader Franklin Drilon and other officials, however, have warned that Duterte’s possible vice presidential bid “goes against the spirit” of the 1987 Constitution. —NB, GMA News
