Angara's LDP to support Sara Duterte if she runs for president in Eleksyon 2022

Senator Sonny Angara on Monday said the Laban ng Demokratikong Pilipino would support Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte if she decides to run for president in the 2022 elections.

"I and the party members have spoken [and] have agreed to support her should she decide to run for President. We are just waiting for the draft MoA (memorandum of agreement) to formalize any agreements made," Angara told reporters.

Angara was the president of LDP, which was founded by his father, the late Senate President Edgardo Angara.

Earlier reports said LDP had expressed intention to form a coalition with Sara Duterte's regional party Hugpong ng Pagbabago.

Asked for reaction on this, Nationalist People’s Coalition chairman and Senate President Vicente Sotto III said, "To each his own, alliances are good but it will not dictate our resolve to offer our KKK to our people. KATAPATAN, KATAPANGAN, KAKAYANAN."

Sotto is set to run for vice president in the 2022 elections. He will be the running mate of Senator Panfilo Lacson.

The Nacionalista Party, the National Unity Party, the Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, the People’s Reform Party, and the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrats have earlier said they are seeking an alliance with HNP for the coming polls.

These parties said they want Sara Duterte, daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte, to run for president in the 2022 elections.

HNP Secretary General Anthony Del Rosario has said Sara Duterte would make public her decision to run by October, which is also the month when those seeking to run in the 2022 elections will file their certificates of candidacy.
